If thou art merry, praise the Lord with music... D&C 136:28

Tonight my family had a really neat experience. We went to see the BYU Idaho Symphony Band.

The boys and I were going to meet Jason at his work at 5pm, have a picnic and then go to the concert. (Jason works in Daphne where the concert was.) It meant making an extra 60 mile round trip (gas was $3.57 per gal at the cheap place in Daphne yikes), but Jason would not have had time to come home and go back.

Of course today was a busy day. I put a lot of things on hold last week to enjoy Spring Break with Ross. So today and yesterday I have been playing catch up with the laundry, the kitchen, the bills, my mail, the Hickory Ridge newsletter which had to be finished, copied and distributed, going to the grocery store and getting ready for Cubs, all while trying to keep Owen happy.

And today Owen took a big nap, which he only does on the days I need to go out, not on the days I want to stay in, somehow he knows...

Anyway when Ross got home, I was still trying to finish up my chores, deliver the newsletter, make our picnic and get everyone clean and changed. We were 30 mins late meeting Jason and Ross had to finish his homework while we were waiting for the concert to begin. It was a scramble but it was worth it.

The concert was wonderful and Owen (the stinker) was good as gold. (Not like when we went to Annie Get Your Gun 3 weeks ago, I had to take him home at the intermission.). Ross really enjoyed it. The music was wonderful, the band was very good and the spirit was so peaceful and uplifting.

The band played marches like Stars and Stripes Forever, Jazz like Dixieland and the Trombone Rag and other songs like an Irish Tune and selections from Wicked. It was so much fun.

Warning, here comes my Soap Box:I was thinking about how much attention is focused on a handful of people who do such negative, worthless or destructive activities. So little time and thought is given to the countless individuals who devote their time and energy, sometimes their whole lives to making the world a better and more beautiful place. How messed up is that.

These college kids are about 3/4 of the way through a 2 week tour of the South preforming free band concerts. They are spending their time and talents to make other people happy, to share culture and beauty with others. I am so glad I have the opportunity to expose Ross and Owen to different kinds of music and art and literature. I think that is just as important as making sure he eats fruits and veggies. Not all junk is junk food. Okay, it's safe now.

I am begining to babble so I will get back to my point, we had a great family night at an awesome concert. Thank You BYU Idaho Symphony Band!
