The Red King

I thought I would tell a funny story about me.

This is the nativity set I got Owen for Christmas. It is a chunky hard plastic Little People set. It is so cute and Owen loves playing with it. So much so that I got him Noah's Ark for his birthday. (Okay, I love Little People too.)

Notice the 3 wise men in the picture, particularly the red one on the right, clearly the king from the Far East.

Most of you know that I am a little complusive, let's just say it, I am rather anal about certain things, like keeping sets together. I can't stand a puzzle that is missing a piece and I have been known to sort out Ross' toy box to make sure all the Batman figures have all their parts. Yes, it is bad.

Well, everynight when I put away Owen's toys, I put the puzzles together and the dog made of big beads back on his string and I restaged the Nativity.

One night just a few weeks after Christmas, when I was restaging the Nativity, I could not find the Red King. I took a deep breath and told myself he would show up. Weeks passed, no Red King, I tore apart the house 2 or 3 times, turned the sofa upside down, made Jason and Ross look, still no Red King.

Finally I could stand it no more and in March I ordered a new Red King off ebay. I paid about $7 with shipping. Finally I had the Red King back and the set was whole again. The very next day, I was sorting Ross and Owen's outgrown clothes and what do I find tuck deep in the bottom of the basket, that's right, the original Red King, right where Owen stuck it.

Go ahead and laugh, we did. Now the extra Red King sits on the mantle as a reminder to me to get a grip. I doubt it will help, but I am trying.

Just so you know, every night I restage Noah's Ark, so far so good, all the animals, Noah and his wife are accounted for. :)

Ann, you're funny. I can totally identify. It's not like the kids wouldn't play with it if it had a piece missing, it's just that you don't quite feel like everthing is right with a clean room if there is an incomplete toy. Maybe we could go to therapy together.
